Keyboard, mouse nothing special. OS I wanted XP because I don't feel like dealing with Vista's crap yet. Onboard Audio, probably get a sound card for christmas. Probably gaming mouse and keyboard too.

The rough total cost, maybe be off a few dollars, is $1270. Including discounts, shipping, and rebates.

Whatta ya think?

Bump. Maybe some kind soul can move this to plain ol' Tech Help instead of this subforum. It doesn't get as much attention :(

The only stuff I can say is, that HDD is greatI'm using one right now, I would suggest getting a better mouse. You can get a G5 for $30.99($45.99 after a mail-in-rebate), Link.

Everything else looks good, though I don't know squat about Intel CPUs or GeForce vid cards.

Question. The 8800GTS uses a PCI-E x16 slot. My mobo only has one. Am I correct in thinking I cannot go SLI later since I would have to use a PCI-E x1 slot? One would be on the x16, the other on the x1.

That Gigabyte board does NOT support SLI.
Maybe research for a better board around the same cost.

You must have a board that supports SLI to be able to use the option.

Ah ok, shoulda checked that. I didnt plan on going SLI first thing, was just wondering if it was an option, and I guess not. But that' something I can live with.

You can usually find a board with the same specs but with the option for SLI. If you get the board without and say in 2 months you want to go SLI you will have to get a new board again.

Just trying to save you a bit of money later down the road.

for that price, GIGABYTE GA-P35 is one of the best motherboards. instead of puting more $ in mobo, maybe you would be better to just get better video card. when the time comes that the video card wont handle the games, you will probably have new and better cards in market, look at the people that built the computers 2 years ago with nvidia 7800gt, why would they buy another 7800GT for ~200$ when they can just add few more $ and get 8800GTS that performs almost twice better than 2X 7800 in SLI

I would add heatsink in your list

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835186134

that CPU just screams to get OC.

I have the evga 8800 gts and I'm very happy with it. I would look for a motherboard which supports raid and swap that 160gb drive for 2x80s and run them in raid 0. I would have a look at a couple of these http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822148261

Thanks guys. Unforunately my budget is a tad tight on what I have chosen. I can't really splurge an extra $100, or even really $75. I think although I might switch some stuff around, like the HDD, monitor. The mobo I'm probably going to keep the one chosen. I'm not looking for an AMAZING computer, just something better than what I have that's able to run most things nicely. My goal for this computer was never to make it a beast.

Recommends a couple of 80GB drives and links to a 250GB drive. :weird: Think you meant a couple of these,

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822148231

which work quite nicely in RAID,

and then trown the 250 Chris linked to for extra storage/backup (I have the same drive only the 7200.09).

Ya, but you can get a 80 for 40 or a 250 for 60. Thats why I linked to the 250.

Either way I highly recommend raid.

Im now looking at this:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814150171
for a video card.

Same thing, just made by XFX and cheaper by $40.

Actually they both have a rebate. 249 vs 269. Evga has an advanced replacement program and a trade in program. Not sure about xfx.

Can anyone recommend an LCD monitor, 17/19 inches, under $200, no widescreen? lol

Don't really want Wide since it's a trick to work with BF games.
