Let us not forget the sacrifice and bravery that happened today. The young men who splashed through waves of enemy lead. Boys that fell from the sky to hold towns and bridges with nothing small arms. To free the world of a madman.

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you.
Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
-- Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

The infamous D-day landing at Omaha Beach.
May all those who fought graciously on that beach, be remembered for their valor, as this day, will continue to have a place inside me.
I wish US History had some sort of coverage on this back in Middle or High School.
This particular war should be considered mandatory honestly, but I learned about it on my own time, outside of school =/.
