How long does a wireless mouse last?

Is there a point in time one should discard it and buy new.

Just curious, mine was purchased in 2002. It still seems to work. I just wonder at times when in game.

Yes, I keep freshly charged NEW batteries in it.

I've had mine for about 2 years... and yes I've had the batt run out mid game and scarmble to the battery drawer. I dont think it would lose anything over time unless the optic got scratched up.
